As I've not heard the specifics on the news

High tide today - PREDICTED high spring tide of
Southampton 4.7metres, 12.20 pm
Portsmouth about 1/2 hour later

At the moment Southampton Water is 1.1m higher than it should be for the
normalk state of the tide
http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/tidesandweather.asp

From the Bournemouth tide gauge
http://www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/pltdata_tgi_ntslf_v2.php?code=Bournemouth&span=1
currently about 1m higher than predicted which usually means that
Southampton will be a bit more, about 1.3m over predicted

So a 6m tide is quite on the books midday today
that is about 0.8m higher than any tide in the last 20 years.
So beware St Denys, Hamble, Lymington, Southsea etc

The later midnight tide will also be higher than predicted, not because of
effects in the English Channel but from the UK-wide tide surge coming in
from the Atlantic - watch this space

Immediate pressure is off , just effect of local low going through, back to
0.7m excess or so for midday tide.
Whether the main surge , currently 0.6m and rising Plymouth will fully
effect the Hampshire midday tide ?
And the surge coming in at Portrush also about 0.6m and rising for the
midnight tide contribution ?

Revised forecast at 10am

Looks as though Bournemouth will be 0.65m over predicted at their high tide
of 10.30, so predicting 0.8m excess at Southanmpton 12.20 high water
http://www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/pltdata_tgi_ntslf_v2.php?code=Bournemouth&span=1
Bournemouth is the bell-weather for Southampton as Southampton is for
Portsmouth

Southampton Water is currently 0.6m higher than it should be at this time
and 0.4m differential down on Bramble, pushing in, so again a 5.5 metre tide
height looks likely

At 11.00 Southampton Water is 1.1m higher than it should be for a 4.7m tide.

Bournemouth at 10.30 was 0.7m over so revised prediction for Southampton of
4.7m plus 1m , so average prediction of 5.7m at 12.20
