As I've not heard the specifics on the news
High tide today - PREDICTED high spring tide of
Southampton 4.7metres, 12.20 pm
Portsmouth about 1/2 hour later
At the moment Southampton Water is 1.1m higher than it should be for the
normalk state of the tide
http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/tidesandweather.asp
From the Bournemouth tide gauge
http://www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/pltdata_tgi_ntslf_v2.php?code=Bournemouth&span=1
currently about 1m higher than predicted which usually means that
Southampton will be a bit more, about 1.3m over predicted
So a 6m tide is quite on the books midday today
that is about 0.8m higher than any tide in the last 20 years.
So beware St Denys, Hamble, Lymington, Southsea etc
The later midnight tide will also be higher than predicted, not because of
effects in the English Channel but from the UK-wide tide surge coming in
from the Atlantic - watch this space
Local trivia with tidal stuff tacked on the end
